This past March, the National Pest Management Association worked with its staff, leadership, past presidents and committees to identify individuals working in the pest control industry that embody the leadership qualities necessary to propel the industry forward. There are a ton of qualified professionals who work hard every day to shape this industry, but only 21 were selected to be published in this prestigious list. We're proud to say that out of all the candidates nominated, our Vice President Adam Witt made the cut. And, though the list is not numbered, he's #1 in our book.
So, what makes a good leader? The NPMA quotes John Quincy Adams, the sixth President of the United States, who said, "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." How does Adam Witt accomplish this? He says, "An effective leader must have the ability to motivate and inspire--not just delegate. He or she must not only have a vision, but the skills to communicate it to their team and the passion and commitment to see it through to its attainment. Other traits include compassion and care for others, and awareness of and humility in themselves." Let's see what that looks like.
If you want to inspire people to dream more, learn more and do more, as President John Quincy Adams points out, Adam Witt believes effective communication is the key. You must have a vision and be able to share that vision in a way that allows the people under you to jump on board and give it their all.
What is a vision if you have not proven an ability to see things through and attain goals? When you say, "We can do this!" They can't just be words. You have to make it happen. Because when you do, something miraculous happens: people begin to believe that anything is possible.
There is no doubt that clearly communicating a vision and proving that you can see it through makes a good leader. But what makes Adam Witt exceptional is his ability to lead with humility and compassion and that is why his people are fiercely loyal.
With Adam Witt helping to steer the ship, the future looks bright for Witt Pest Management, and for the industry as a whole. Congratulations Adam for your well-deserved recognition.
